Airplanes, Blimps & A Boy Oh My!

When Mike was in Taiwan on his business trip one of the men from Goodyear gave him a blimp for Griffin.

Griffin absolutely LOVED it! He had fun tossing it here and there ... playing catch with it ... you name it ... he did it. Then he decided he wanted to hang it in his bedroom.

When I was pregnant with Griffin we decided to decorate his bedroom with an airplane theme. We thought it would be fun to decorate that way because Mike is into airplanes and we thought Griffin might like them too.

That's an understatement.

Our house if full of airplanes, blimps, helicopters ... along with trains, tractors and such. But he ALWAYS goes back to the airplanes.

Over the last four years we've added a few more fun things to his bedroom ...

For instance ... his Nana & Pop brought this cool remote control airplane that no longer would work. A friend asked Pop if he would like to have it and he said yes ... he knew just the boy who would like it. When they visited us this past fall the boys hung it up on his ceiling. Griffin thinks it's the coolest thing.

And now ... we've added the blimp to the ceiling.

Pretty soon we may need air traffic control stationed in his bedroom.

You might also notice the posters on the wall. Griffin attended his first Sun 'N Fun Airplane Fly-In (in Florida) when he was only 2 months old in April of 2005. We've gone almost every year since ... and I have posters from each year. I really need to get those framed and hung up.

In the picture above you can see the crib is still up. It's been almost a year since we've took the railings down and made it into the daybed for him. He's getting so tall, he's just about to grow out of his bed. This bed will actually turn into a single bed, too. We're trying to decide if that's the way we want to go or maybe bunk beds. I feel he's still a bit young for bunk beds. We'll just have to see.

Hope you have a great day ...

Our Yummy Cake.

In the mood to bake, I asked Griffin if he wanted to help me bake a cake.

He loves going into the pantry to get the mixer and then rummaging through the drawers to find the beaters.

After putting all of the ingredients in the bowl it was time to mix them up. Griffin loves to help me cook. Most nights when I'm making dinner he'll pull one of kitchen chairs over to the island to "help" me.

After taking the cake out of the oven and allowing time for it to cool down it was time to put some icing on it.

Chocolate or coconut?
Coconut or chocolate?

Mmmmmmm ... which one would it be?

How about both ...

Mike likes coconut cake ... Griffin and I like chocolate cake.

We decided to ice it with both flavors that way we could all enjoy the cake of our choice.

Sometimes in life you have to make compromises ... in this case it was as simple as icing the cake with both flavors to make everyone happy.

Blackeyed Peas.

Seriously ...

Is there anything better than blackeyed peas with a little hot onion added?

Yep ... blackeyed peas, with a little hot onion ... then topped with some fried okra.

Yummmmmmm ... is it a southern thing?

Griffin's First Soccer Game.

I can't believe I forgot to blog about Griffin's first soccer game.

It was last Saturday morning. The kids did really well with only one day of practice.

He's enjoying himself ... that's important.

He's supposed to have another soccer game if it doesn't rain.

Enjoy your Saturday!

The Trike-A-Thon.

Yesterday was the St. Jude's Trike-A-Thon at Griffin's preschool.

Though it was originally planned as an outside event, it had to be held indoors to due to the rain.

Parents marked off areas in the meeting hall to represent bike parking, a starting line, a stop sign, a cross walk and a construction zone. The children had learned about the different areas during class time at school. Griffin's bicycle is on the right side, the first yellow one with the bright blue helmet.

Griffin is rounding the corner ... watch out for Ms. Linda!

Though we took his bicycle to school ... he decided to take this very cool three-wheeler for a spin.

Oh noooooooo ... watch out for the stop light. Honestly ... he was better at going in reverse than going forward. {smile}

The children had a great time raising funds for St. Jude Children's Hospital, learning bicyle safety and having "fun time" on a regular school day. Of course one of the highlights of the day was earning their "driver's license" and goodie bag and receiving it from Ms. Jennifer.

Aren't these just the cutest driver's licenses? Thank you CY for making them.

As soon as the Paper Piecing event ends on Ebay on Saturday (you can
click here for more info on that) ... I will be posting a total of how much our amazing friends and family members helped us to raise.

Thank you very much for helping to make this a great event for Griffin, his preschool and St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Little Boy Blue.

After lunching at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Griffin and I went into the grocery store next door for a couple of items.

While we were there he received a freebie blue balloon. He saw a Mickey Mouse balloon and asked very sweetly if he could have it. He LOVES Mickey Mouse right now ... and since he had such good behavior ... he got it.

Well ... he also got a blue ring pop ... he was blue all over!!

Can you see his teeth ... they are B.L.U.E. too!!

I think this is one of my all time favorite pictures of Griffin. It captures his joyful spirt, his beautiful smile and his sparkling eyes. He's our one-of-a-kind wonderful boy!

We you, buddy!

Ident-A-Kid

When I dropped Griffin off for school yesterday, the director of the preschool mentioned they had no parent volunteers to help with the Ident-A-Kid program the Sheriff's office would be there to do.

My plan was to come home and work on paper piecing orders, however I knew I was needed at the preschool and stayed to help. Sandy, another parent was also able to stay.

The deputy from the Sheriff's Department was to fingerprint and photograph each child. This information is then put into a passport type of book for parents to keep on hand in case an emergency arrives and this information is needed.

Together we worked as a team and managed to get all 24 kids photographed, documented and fingerprinted in about an hour and a half.

The fingerprint ink was very hard to get off of the children's hands. It took lots of soap and scrubbing to get most of it off. All of the kids still had little black smudges on their hands after we were finished. I can only imagine the fun stories they are going to share with their parents about being "fingerprinted" at preschool.

We were all finished by 11:15 so I decided to stay at school to volunteer. I was able to help the director and a couple of teachers with different tasks they needed help with. That was fun.

It was cute watching Griffin in the class room environment and interacting with the different teachers and kids.

What a great day it was!

One Final Fund Raiser.

As you may know ... our four-year-old son Griffin is participating in a Trike-A-Thon at his preschool to help raise funds for St. Jude's Children Hospital.

I've decided to host one final fundraiser for this event.

I've listed some really cute Tear Bears Paper Piecings on Ebay.

The bidding begins at $1.00 for each of the items and the shipping is free.

All proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

You can see them by
clicking here .

Please stop by and see if there is anything that you might be interested in.

I would also like to congratulate Melinda on winning the gift basket my sister-in-law
Bonnie was giving away on her blog!

We Are Family.

Yesterday was a fun filled day with my two boys ...

One of the great things about living in the country is we get to explore our property.

See my two handsome fellas sitting all snug and secure in the Polaris?

Do you see those sweet little smiles on their faces?

Care to see what they are giggling about ...

That would be me trying to move a downed tree away from the trail ... lol.

It wasn't heavy just big and wiry. I finally got it moved ... jumped in the buggy with my boys and and off adventuring we went.

Thank God I'm a country girl!

And The Winner Is ...

Thank you to everyone for donating to Griffin's Trike-A-Thon. I was going to wait until Thursday after his Trike-A-Thon to do the drawing for the Tear Bunny Paper Piecing ... but I thought this morning ... why wait?

So we put everyone's name in a hat that made a donation and we are excited to announce ...

Congratulations Lacey!

You are the winner of the Easter Tear Bunny Paper Piecing!

I will mail your paper piecing out to you as soon as possible.

Thank you!
Missy

Craft Show Day ~ One-Of-A-Kind Paper Piecings

If you have visited my blog over the past several days you know we are in a full fledge fund raiser mode.

Our four-year-old son Griffin is participating in a Trike-A-Thon at his preschool on March 26th. The goal of the Trike-A-Thon is to teach young children bike safety and the idea of helping others.

This wonderful event is an effort to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude's is a world leader in the fight against childhood diseases such as cancer, AIDS, sickle cell disease and other catastrophic diseases. They have made great progress because of the help of people who participate in and donate to events like the Trike-A-Thon.

My goal this week has been to help Griffin raise as many donations as possible.

So ... with that in mind ... today I am hosting my first ever "One-Of-A-Kind Paper Piecing Craft Show Day"! All proceeds from the sale of these paper piecings will be donated to St. Jude's Hospital in Griffin's name.

These items are offered as "one-of-a-kind". That means I only have ONE of each shown. They come as shown with light brown hair.

If you are interested in one (or more!) of the items shown, please email me at mgmh@aol.com with a list of the items you would like to purchase with a donation. I will try to mark items "sold" as soon as they sell. There is a possibility I may get multiple requests for the same item. I will try to check my email through out the day to try to avoid this. Should this happen, please understand the first person to request it (email date time stamp) will be the person who will have the first chance to purchase it. If you would like to purchase an item and it has already been sold, I will let you know.

After you email me, I will then email you back with a confirmed donation total. You will then be asked to come back to my blog and click on the Pay Pal Donation button on the top right hand corner of my blog to make your donation.

The items will ship for free ... so no extra will be needed for shipping. Of course if you choose to donate more than the donation requested price ... we are definitely OKAY with that. =)

Here we go ... these items are currently available for a purchase via a donation!
