Black Eyed Peas ~ It's A Tradition.

As in most southern homes eating black eyed peas is a tradition on New Year's day.

Don't they look absolutely yummy?

When we have them we add a bit of chopped onion and fried okra.

I remember eating black eyed peas every New Year's day when I was growing up. My Daddy would also make fried hog jowl and cracklin bread to go along with them.

Though we did not have the hog jowl and cracklin bread we did enjoy ham, corn, macoroni & cheese and corn bread.

Do you have black eyed peas on New Year's day?

If not, what is your traditional New Year's day meal?

Believe it or not we did not have black eyed peas this year. We didn't even eat dinner. We had a brunch at Village Inn and then last night Jerome had cookies and milk and cheese doodles.
