The other day I mentioned I was going to make Jambalaya for dinner. My friend Jen emailed and said she had never heard of it before. So, I thought I would share a picture and a link if you would like more information about it's origins.
Even though I start with a box, I still consider it "homemade". The box consists of the rice and spices ... I add the meat ... hamburger, smoked sausage and shrimp. I also add another box of black beans and rice. It just gives it a little more "umpph". And I also add a can of Fire Roasted tomatos.
Follow the directions and it cooks all together. Jambalaya is a one bowl rice dish ... it's yummy ... and hearty. It can also be spicy. That's why we do not have it very often because it's a bit too spicy for Griffin.
Mmmmmmmm ... yummy! The version I make is probably more of the creole style because I make mine with tomatos. There is also a cajun style that's more brown than red. Make sure to click on this link to find out more if you are interested.
And dinner is served ... it is so, so good!!

I have seen the Zataran's, but I haven't tried it. It looks really good so maybe for dinner one night this week. Have a great day.
Ooops....Zatarain's It's early still.
That looks yummy I will have to try your version because Jeff loves spicy food but not Cole though so I would have to make him something different but that okay I don't mind that:)
Have a good one:)
I figured out quickly after tasting Jambalaya that it meant mixed up stuff you choose, as long as it is spicy and has some rice in it. My mom's version was like no other I ever tasted. And no other version ever tasted or looked like another version.
That looks sooo yummy!
But nobody would eat it except for me:(
I'm with Jilly. I would eat it, I don't think Jerome would. It looks really good. Your blogs always make me hungry.
Been eating Zatarain's rice for several years now, we consumed alot of the yellow rice, as well as the red and black bean combinations as well. I just happen to be primed to go grocery shopping this afternoon---have added hamburger, and smoked sausage to the list------guess what we are having for dinner tonight?

Not a big Jambalaya fan. i might have to try this though.
You're makin my mouth water Missy! Dangggggggg..that looks gooooood.
Not a big fan of spices myself..might try a toned down version on the family.
I love using the Zataran's Jambalaya. I have a family of 5, 3 of which are guys and one box doesn't last very long at dinner. I've had to start doubling up so that i'd have enough.
Look at that, you did take a picture for me. Too cool!! I have to admit it sounds really good, I love spicy foods but my colon doesn't, LOL
