How Our Garden Grows.

We planted our garden a couple of weeks ago and we have been patiently waiting to see if anything will come up.

Imagine our surprise when we finally saw evidence of our garden growing this weekend! I know, I know ... watching a garden grow might be as interesting as watching grass grow for some ... but for US it's exciting!

The bright green sprouts of the lettuce were the first to show up.

Later in the day we finally saw broccoli sprouting through the earth.

Here comes the corn, ya'll!

And finally ... one green bean came through the dirt.

We've had a bunch of rain and then sunshine so God is helping us take good care of our garden.

It's so much fun to watch it grow!

Registering For Kindergarden.

Our little boy is growing up ...

Today we will register Griffin for kindergarden ... it's so hard to believe he's old enough to go to elementary school.

Honestly, I'm a little scared (read alot!) for him to go to kindergarden. That's a thought I will NOT be sharing with him of course

I worry that he will not be able to find his way to his classroom. Will he be able to carry his own tray at lunch time without spilling it. Will he have enough to eat during the day. Will he be okay without me?

I know Griffin isn't the first child to begin kindergarden ... but he's my ONLY child and I have these fears.

I love him sooooo very much ... and I just want him to be okay.

I'm a little weepy today because my baby is growing up.

G-R-I-F-F-I-N

Griffin has grown in many different ways while attending preschool.

I remember being very torn about whether or not I should let him attend. So many of his friends started preschool the year before him (they were a year older) and the moms assured me it was a positive experience for their children.

When Griffin was three he started preschool. And my goodness ... it was the BEST decision ever!

He has grown so much academically and socially. It has been the MOST amazing experience for him.

Tomorrow he and I will go to the elementary school to register him for kindergarden. Kindergarden. Can you believe that? Already!

I'm still amazed every day when he comes home from school and shares what he has learned that day. I'm still amazed each and every time he writes his name. Just look at this.

He's a name writer, alright!

When he began to write his name his teachers explained he had a very hard name to learn to write with the G and the F's. He puts his own spin on writing his name, sort of his "trademark" lettering.

My baby is growing up ... in just a few short months he will no longer be a preschooler ... he'll be a kindergardner!

It's Like Pink Snow.

Last week I was going to blog about the pretty pink flowers growing on the tree in the backyard. I'm glad I waited because now I can share them with the full story.

The beautiful pink blossoms in their full glory. Normally this time of year we are in Florida on spring break and we miss them. But this year we are lucky to be home to enjoy them.

I have no idea the kind of tree this is. We're just lucky it was here when we moved here. Just look at all that pinkness!

Not only do we usually miss the flowers blooming on the tree we also miss the pretty pink carpet of pink blossoms blown from the tree. I'm loving the fact we get to enjoy all this, this year!

Griffin and I have been enjoying some fun times in the "pink snow" on the ground.

Such a sweet smile ...

... and a giggle.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Griffin. Ever.

Handfulls of pinkness ... ready for the pink "snow ball" fight.

In action ...

The giggly aftermath.

It's funny how a few flowers and time with our sweet boy can result in such a wonderfully fun time.

I'm so happy to enjoy this time with him. I realized the other day he will be in kindergarden in just a few short months. We are going to spend as much time together doing fun things as we can.

The Drive-In Theatre.

We had a super fun family date night Saturday night at the drive-in theatre.

We saw "How To Train Your Dragon" ... a movie Griffin has been dying to see. He's collected almost all of the dragon toys from McDonald's ... he still needs the gray one and purple one. LOL. He reminds me of that everyday.

The drive-in was built last year, but it has a retro feel to it. They have a full snack bar ... with good movie theatre food.

They also have this terrific playground for the kids to enjoy before the movie begins. Griffin LOVED it!

A picture of my boys headed back to the Jeep to settle in for the movie.

It was fun. FUN, FUN, FUN ... and we plan to do it again really soon!

Us.

I took this picture of the three of us this past weekend after we had a long day of gardening.

I'm such a lucky girl to have such a wonderful husband and son.

This is a sign that hangs on the front of my house ...

Just a reminder to all that enter our house of how truly blessed we are.

Happy Weekend ... see ya'll Monday!

The Seeds Are Planted.

This past weekend Mike worked hard on getting the ground ready to plant our garden. He broke up the ground with the tractor, plowed the rows and tilled the mounds.

It was hard work ... but he did it!

Finally it was time to plant the seeds in the ground.

Griffin enjoyed helping Daddy dig the little holes and place two seeds in each hole.

After two days of intensely hard work ... all the seeds have been planted.

We have 12 rows with 14 different vegetables. We've planted a tomato garden all by itself. I did that a couple of weeks ago.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for a bountiful garden.

I'm going to learn how to can and put vegetables up in the freezer.

I'm SO excited!

Spring Flowers.

We have a bunch of fruit trees in our yard. I think we have seven of them. The previous owner planted them. I can never remember the kind of fruit they are. I know one is a pear tree. I think another one is some kind of inedible apple. And the other one starts with a "p" too, but I can't remember what it is.

We've never eaten any of the fruit ourselves but the squirrels have. As soon as the fruit appears the squirrels have a feast.

We do however get to enjoy the beautiful flowers we see on the fruit trees.

I love all the flowers that are blooming right now.

{Sigh}

It's just so pretty!

Happy Monday.

It is a happy Monday, indeed!

Mike has been out of town alot lately but he's home ALL week this week. That makes for a GREAT start to the week.

Mike had an EAA (experimental aircraft) meeting in New Kent on Saturday so Griffin and I went with him. While Mike was at the meeting Griffin and I found a park and hung out. Then we picked Mike up and went to lunch. Followed by a trip to Tractor Supply. When leaving Tractor Supply we saw a helicopter make an emergency landing on a patch of grass right near the parking lot. Pilot & passenger were okay. Thank goodness!

Isn't Griffin cute in his goggles? He calls them his glasses. He's such a silly boy! This picture really has nothing to do with today's post except of course it makes me "happy" to see my silly boy doing silly things.

Another silly picture. He put his cars in a circle the other day on the porch. I asked him what he was doing and he said they were playing duck-duck-goose. LOL.

Okay ... so on with the weekend.

When we got home on Saturday Mike plowed the rows for our garden this year. Then he and I went about trying to break up the clay/dirt on the mounds it created. That was a very hard task!

Sunday morning we finished up by tilling the ground and planting the seeds. We have planted a pretty large garden and hope to have a mighty harvest this year.

Griffin is going back to school today after enjoying Spring Break last week.

It's a Happy Monday for sure!

The Pansy Garden.

The other day Griffin and I went to Lowe's to choose some new azalea plants for the front of the house.

While we were there he wanted to get some pansies ... so I let him!

Who's the cutest little bloom on the buggy?

When we got home he helped me unload the Jeep.

Silly faces + pretty flowers = a sweet experience with my little boy.

He enjoyed playing with the tags on the pansies ... just look at that devilish grin.

We decided to put his pansy garden in the big terra cotta pot where our sad little hydrangea was. We've since transplanted the hydrangea in the ivy covered area of our front yard. I think it will flourish there.

Together he and I filled the pot with pretty pansies ... then he watered them.

Here he is posing with his pretty pansy garden. He's been taking really good care of it. Every day he checks to see if it needs to be watered. When it does we pull the hose around and he sprinkles it with water.

Wishing you a GREAT weekend ... see you on Monday!
