After creating our jack-o-lanterns I thought it would be fun to toast the pumpkin seeds.
I've never done this before, so I searched online for a recipe. I took the recipe I found and kind of made it my own. I'll share my version of the recipe below.
Here you see me seperating the seeds from the gooey part of the pumpkin
The seeds all washed and cleaned ... ready for toasting
Yummmmmmmm ... they are soooo good!
Toasting Pumpkin Seeds ... Missy's version:
Seperate pumpkin seeds from the gooey part of the pumpkin
Wash the pumpkin seeds
Mix one egg white with 1/2 cup sugar (I used Splenda) and salt.
Add pumpkin seeds to mixture
Pour mixture into collander to drain excess egg white
Arrange on a cookie sheet in a single layer
Cook at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes ... after about 8 minutes I stirred them around
After baking sprinkle with more sugar (Splenda) and salt to taste
There are probably 1000's of recipes out there ... but because this was my first time I decided to do the easiest version I could find. Next year I may try a savory recipe. Do you have a wonderful recipe for toasting pumpkin seeds?
If so ... please share!
I've never done it so I'm of no help, lol
ReplyDeleteI've never done this before either! I have thought about it before but never tried it. I'll have to put it on my "to do" list. They look like they'd be good!
ReplyDeleteI've never done it. But I have had store bought pumpkins seeds and they were salty. Are yours sweet? I'll bet those are really good.
ReplyDeleteWe used to toast them but no one ever ate them so I stopped doing it.
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that if ya toast em they no longer can be planted to grow next years crop of Pumpkins?? Personally, I can't even begin to imagine being so hungry as to even consider eating pumpkin seeds, don't ya have to take the husks off first? So much effort for so little? (lol)
ReplyDeleteWe used to toast them years ago when the kids were little...but I don't remember how we did it. For some reason I think we just washed them and toasted them in the oven, then sprinkled them with salt..or was it sugar? lol I'll have to ask Laura how we did it...she should remember. Anyway...yours sound yummy! Love the shirt you have on.. so Autumn looking. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your wonderful comment. Also for adding me. :) I have toasted pumpkin seeds before, but I never heard of putting sugar on them, that is probably why I didn't like them. hehehe
ReplyDeleteHave a great night!
